Celebrate and explore the deep tradition and rich history of gospel music and learn how this unique genre enriched the worship experience in Black churches by fostering emotional expression, inclusivity, cultural identity, and social justice, while also evolving the traditional liturgical practices to create a more engaging and spiritually resonant environment. We will also honor the trailblazers who brought gospel music to Morris County and sing some beloved pieces along with special guest artists and the Bethel Church praise team. Sponsored by Sankofa Heritage Collective of Morris County, Morris County Historical Society, Bethel Church of Morristown, NJ Council for the Humanities, and NJ Historical Commission as part of the first county-wide survey of African American history and historic sites, the afternoon promises to excite and inspire. Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased on the MCHS events page or $12 at the door. Proceeds to benefit Sankofa Heritage Collective of Morris County and Morris County Historical Society. Bethel Church is located at 59 Spring St., Morristown. For more information, contact [email protected] or (973) 267-3465.
