Start your New Year off in the place our new nation leapt forward in opening lands for new settlers. Join us on an elevated boardwalk into a swamp and get a feel for the plants and animals experienced by 1815 surveyors. Find out how the initial point was created and discover a granite monument that was dedicated to commemorate this event in 1926. We also will explore how the roots of the initial point run deep from conflicts around the distant world on an informative 0.5-mile easy hike. Be sure to dress warmly and wear shoes you are comfortable hiking in. Please bring drinking water as none is available at the site, insect repellent and sunscreen. Preregistration is not required. All participants will receive a complimentary First Day Hike sticker. Meet at Louisiana Purchase State Park parking lot.
