First Shots Try Pistol


Try Pistol is a great introductory course for families, youth or anyone that is unsure about shooting a firearm. Participants will learn basic firearm safety and proper use of a semi-automatic .22 pistol while giving them the confidence and information needed to safely and successfully shoot on their own. An emphasis will be placed on introductory materials such as parts of the gun, operation of a semi-automatic pistol, proper grip, how to aim and how to safely load and unload to perform a clearance check. Range time will consist of putting together all the basics to shoot 25 rounds with a .22 pistol. A pistol will be provided for the class.

A target, hearing and eye protection will also be provided for your use as well as take home. At the completion of the course, the participant will have successfully completed the practical requirement for their SSEC firearms membership. A sample of what to expect in our Try Pistol class: Firearms Safety Rules SSEC Regulations Parts of the gun Operation of a semi-automatic pistol How to perform a clearance check Grip, Stance, Aim Guided live fire and range time Attire: Please wear closed toed shoes and high neck shirts. Hats with a brim are also recommended. Note: This course is very similar to the Firearms 101 course except the .22 LR pistol will be used This course was developed by the NSSF and part of their First Shots program and additional resources will be made available to you including a $25 gift certificate to be used at the SSEC after the completion of a survey.
