The Frozen Chosen: The 1st Marine Division At The Chosin Reservoir
In June 1950, North Korea, backed by Russia and China, invaded South Korea. UN forces retreated, but a
U.S. amphibious landing at Inchon pushed North Koreans back. Despite warnings, General MacArthur advanced toward the Chosin Reservoir, where 90,000 Chinese troops ambushed the Marines. In brutal winter, the Marines crippled eight Chinese divisions, allowing the UN to regroup and defend South Korea.
