Hurricane Hundred K

Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 7, 2024 for the 3rd edition of the Hurricane Hundred K brought to you by the City of Hurricane, the Dumont Tri County YMCA, and a host of local sponsors!

The Hurricane Hundred 100K Trail Race and Relay is 62 glorious miles on the Meeks Mountain Trails in Hurricane WV.

For the heartiest of runners only. Run the 100k solo or as a three-person team doing 20+ miles each. Crew, family, and spectators can hang out and support their runners. There's a playground nearby and loads of open trails for hiking, biking, running, and exploring.

Pacers: For solo runners, pacers are permitted for the last two loops.

Swag: All runners receive a zip-up sweatshirt jacket with male and female sizes available, a finisher's award, and a tote with swag from sponsors. All 100k solo finishers within the 18-hour will receive a Hurricane 100k belt buckle.

Awards

Overall awards: Solo 100k runners compete for $10,000 in prize money. There's $2500 for 1st place male and female, $1500 for second place male and female, and $1000 for third place male and female.

Course record bonus: Compete for a $1000 course record bonus for both men and women in 2024!  The course record on the Hurricane Hundred K OG course is 8:38:31 for men and 9:31:32 for women.

Relay awards: The top all-male, all-female, and co-ed teams will receive hand-crafted awards for everyone.

Age group awards: The top 3 female and male finishers in the following age groups will receive hand-crafted awards: 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over.

Hundred K Relay

The relay race is open to teams of three: an all-male team, an all-female team, and a coed team.  Every team will be issued one chip. The chip must cross the finish line 6 times, and the handoff must occur at the finish/start line-not mid-trail. Teams will determine the order of runners and laps. The race headquarters is perfect for teams and crews to relax and hang out while their teammates run. When registering, the team captain will register and pay for the entire team. A female must run at least two of the six loops as a coed team.

Course

This is a single-tract trail, with approximately 1300 feet of climbing per loop for a total of 7,800 feet for the 100k.  There are no long hills, but there are plenty of small hills.

The mid-course aid station will be available approximately halfway through the 10.3-mile loop, and there is one hydration-only station at mile 8.

The other aid station is at the beginning /end of each loop, which is the low spot of the course.  It's also the crew and relay area.

We call this course the OG. The course record for men is held by Alex Minor at 8:38:31; for women, it is owned by HollyAnn Swan at 9:31:32.
