Lark Allen III ·  From Africa to Eternity – The Remix

Like his predecessor the late Toby Martin, Lark Allen III has dedicated his life to making forms from his spirit. As a mixed-media artist that utilizes found materials from his immediate environment, the intent of Allen’s work is to document changes over time that reflect personal and collective experiences faced by African Americans. He has created self-proclaimed African inspired artifacts through the vessel of the mask in effort to reveal past and present histories that shape the black diasporan existence.

Lark Allen III is a mixed-media artist based in Saginaw, Michigan. A graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art (2014), Allen received an M.F.A. Born in Elberton, Georgia, his decision to pursue art as a career began in his early 30’s after enrolling in an introductory sculpture course at Georgia Perimeter College. Allen is currently an Adjunct Art Instructor at Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College in University Center, Michigan. His work can be found in the permanent collection at the Cranbrook Art Museum, and he has most recently exhibited in solo and group shows at the Embalming Gallery, Saginaw Michigan (2021), The Saginaw Art Museum (2022), and Anderson Enrichment Center, Saginaw, Michigan (2023), and The Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce (2024).
