Hybrid meeting (in-person and virtual)

The July 8, 2024 program of Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County (HFFC) will host a discussion of Green Burial options. Panelists include Keith Denning, CT State Representative and co-sponsor of home composting bill; Rebecca Lautenslager, Funeral Director, Wilton, CT; and Pamela Brown, Executive Director of Hillside Cemetery, Wilton, CT, which is one of four Connecticut cemeteries which allow green burials.

While there is a growing interest in eco-friendly disposition of a deceased human body, there has not been a lot of movement in the Northeast to implement these options. The speakers will provide us with information to express interest, support the bill and have some of these green burial options come to fruition in this highly-regulated industry. Perhaps it will lead you to choose an eco-friendly burial option in the future as your final contribution to lessening your carbon footprint to help fight climate change.

This meeting is free and open to all.  Join us at the Wilton (Connecticut) Quaker Meeting House for the presentation and come to the social hour beforehand.  Pizza and refreshments will be served from 6:00-6:45 PM. We will also be recording and broadcasting this meeting virtually via Zoom for anyone who is unable to join us in person. HFFC meets on the second Monday of each month.
