B.B. Winslow’s The Restlessness in Me resonates like the gentle extension of the notes ending a symphony. His canvas is a stage for movements of bold brushstrokes and dynamic compositions, with form and texture that deconstruct the ethereal without a destructive element. All this combines to make a visceral experience that connects the beholder to the artist’s inner world of reflection, pause, and consideration of beauty underpinning the emotional depth built into each piece. Much like reverence found in sacred spaces, his paintings envelop the feelings found in places of meditation.

Unexpectedly, Winslow’s pieces give a nod to the frescos of the Renaissance which told stories of the sacred. In this modernization, the stories are to be sure more nuanced and introspective; more personal, and individualized than those found on Italian walls and ceilings. Nevertheless, a rhythm and flow are found threaded throughout his paintings making way for contemplation.

The reverence found throughout Winslow’s compositions and use of color brings to mind the work of early abstractionist pioneer Vasily Kandinsky. Much like Kandinsky, color is a tool Winslow uses to transcend the material world, creating a conversation between visible material and the intangible. While Winslow’s work is in many cases less angular and tonally different than Kandinsky’s, it is similarly complex in application and scale.

In The Restlessness in Me, B.B. Winslow invites viewers into a world where color, form, and texture transcend their material confines. His work strikes a delicate balance between the expressive and the contemplative; paying homage to the sacred and the historical. It is this amalgamation that stirs emotion and wonder.
