Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at an orchestra’s rehearsal process. The Friends’ new partner, the Sol Solis Consort, now hold their rehearsals weekly on Thursdays from 7-9pm in the upper gallery. On September 19th, the group will host their first Open Rehearsal for young aspiring musicians, those curious about how the conducting process works or just wish to enjoy some beautiful music and positive youth development.

The mission of the Sol Solis Consort is to provide a musical learning experience for young and adult aspiring musicians in the community. As a teaching orchestra, Sol Solis Consort promotes a non-competitive and cooperative philosophy, welcoming the skills and talents of all members. Members range from young to old-er and hail from different communities and diverse backgrounds. Through music, Sol Solis Consort members develop their abilities to cooperate, focus, communicate and work towards a common goal. They work hard to develop musical skills, including technique, rhythm, intonation, dynamic control, interpretation and expression.

But don’t be fooled - this group of musicians is wildly talented and provides a unique take on orchestral music. Musicians learn everything from pop music to show tunes as well as classical (they are currently working their way through Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons.”

The Sol Solis Consort is managed by Artistic Director Dr. Eric Chen. For many young aspiring musicians, the transition from individual lessons and practice to ensemble playing with Sol Solis Consort introduces an exciting and tremendously motivating dimension of the world of music. The group is always welcoming new members, both adults who provide the “skeleton” of the group as well as students with approval from Dr. Chen.
