This annual sellout is a behind-the-scenes experience that provides a small group of teens with the opportunity to learn first-hand and hands-on about how different departments at the aquarium work together to support the conservation of both marine and terrestrial species. Apprentices work side-by-side with professional aquarists to feed animals, monitor their behavior, clean select exhibits, and design enrichment. They’ll work with our exhibits team to research and design a model enclosure for one of our animals and get their hands dirty participating in scientific work in a coastal habitat with input from our in-house research scientists. Finally, they’ll work closely with our education department to design a mission table to educate Aquarium guests about an animal species of their choice. They’ll get to open their table up to the public on the last day of camp – including family and friends! This program will potentially include field trips to visit other institutions, field research sites, and service-learning opportunities.
