Howe, A Rising Americana Music Star, Joins Freebo, a Folk, Rock and Blues Icon Known for Touring with Bonnie Raitt

NEEDHAM, Mass.—On November 2, 2024, Americana music lovers are in for a treat when the Needham Bank Great Hall Concert Series brings The Alice Howe & Freebo Band to the Needham stage.

The band joins together Alice Howe, a rising voice in Americana music who was named the Best Female Artist at the 2023 International Acoustic Music Awards, and Freebo, a venerable rock, folk and blues icon known for his decade of touring and recording with Bonnie Raitt. They will perform with guitarist Marty Walsh and drummer Peter Whitehead.

“We are thrilled to feature these amazing artists,” said Michael Greis, co-president, The Great Hall Performance Foundation. “Alice Howe, who grew up in Newton, is a fast-rising international talent and Freebo has had a major influence on the evolution of American music. Their collaboration is magical and it’s a joy to host them.”

Howe is an old soul inside a 30-something millennial. With beautiful and emotionally resonant vocals, she puts her stamp on American music’s timeless strands with standout originals evoking both classic singer-songwriters and the sounds that once filled airwaves, roadhouses and juke joints. American Highways writes of her second album, Circumstance, “One of 2023’s best albums - right here. Look no further. This isn’t just a singer - this is an artist.” Experience her music at alicehowe.com.

Freebo is a genuine folk, rock and blues icon who has distinguished himself as one of the great bassists of our time, playing on records with Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN), Maria Muldaur, John Mayall, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, and Neil Young as well as appearing on Saturday Night Live, The Midnight Special, The Muppet Show, and in concert with the legendary Spinal Tap. Not willing to simply rest on those achievements, Freebo has delved more deeply into his creativity and has become a highly regarded singer/songwriter, now working on his sixth full-length solo CD.
