There’s a reason why it’s called A NEW CHRISTMAS
“A holiday movie with a South Asian actor? Oh’ this is just the beginning. Soon there will be South Asian Christmas movies.”
These words come from actor Prashantt Guptha, a fellow New Yorker who is the co-producer and lead actor of a popular holiday movie on Amazon Prime called, A NEW CHRISTMAS. The film was jointly produced by him and Rashaana Shah of Mulberry Films based in Atlanta. Not only is it an impactful holiday movie, especially for New York and Christmas lovers, but it serves the market a fine portrayal of cultural representation in a genre that is otherwise catered towards a mainstream American audience. Furthermore, it demonstrates what can be accomplished with passion, determination and a good idea. It was shot in New York and Long Island, made for under $200k, and completed in just 12 days. It went on to get accepted to 15 film festivals before it became a holiday FAV on Amazon Prime. And for those unfamiliar with New York’s very own Prashantt Guptha … he left NY in 2007 and went on to become a Bollywood actor. He has over 15 credits to his filmography, some of which include box office & streaming hits like NEERJA, THE TASHKENT FILES, SPECIAL OPS and AASHRAM (season 3). He’s now back in NY promoting this movie, writing a memoir and in talks on a few Hollywood and Hindi projects.
