Chair Barnes applauds Nessel’s dedication to fighting Trump’s harmful federal funding freeze
LANSING — With Trump’s newest attempts to gut the federal government, Attorney General Dana Nessel is leading the charge, joined by 21 other Attorneys General, to stop Trump from slashing National Institutes of Health funding. This funding supports pediatric cancer research, disease prevention work, and other critical health research programs that Michiganders rely on.
“With Trump and Musk in charge, two billionaires have decided that pediatric cancer, chronic illnesses, and disease prevention somehow aren’t as important as another tax cut for the 1%,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “It is despicable, but yet not surprising, that Trump is gutting the NIH to fund his dangerous agenda that will only hurt Michiganders. I am so grateful that we have a champion like Attorney General Nessel fighting for us against these nonstop attacks on Michiganders and their families.
“Every time that Trump tries to kick sick children to the curb, Michigan Democrats will step up and work to protect these vulnerable individuals from his devastating agenda. Make no mistake, Trump will always put his billionaire cadre over working Michiganders and their families.”
