WHISKEY
Whiskey is Quarter Horse/Arabian stallion that came to AAE last month when his elderly owner passed away after an extended illness. We were told he is 7-8 years old, though we think he’s probably a bit older. He came with an older stallion; we'll share more about him, next. These are the two guys that were with Maia and Portia that we provided feed for until they could be transported to AAE, as soon as we could set-up adequate quarantine/housing for stallions. Their owner passed, and the need to transfer became even more urgent.
We don't usually take stallions, and we weren't going to take these two until we saw them. Besides their condition, these boys were tied to stakes on about 15' ropes, and the two mares had been in adjoining paddocks. We had to set-up paddocks suitable for stallions for quarantine and housing, but we got it done.
Whiskey was mostly a gentleman, though we were told we had to watch out for him. He definitely has some studly tendencies, but for pick-up and transport, he was soft, sweet, and scared, especially loading into the trailer, though he loaded slowly, he loaded willingly.
Once at AAE, he was started on an alfalfa diet (consistent with UCD’s protocol for refeeding malnourished horses). He's a handful. As soon as he stabilizes and gains a bit of weight, he will be castrated and have hoof and dental care, vaccines, deworming, and a microchip. Once done, he'll continue handling/evaluation before he's available for adoption.
Until he is ready for adoption, Whiskey needs a monthly sponsor (or a team of sponsors) to help support his care costs and gelding. Learn more about becoming a monthly sponsor or make a one time donation to help horses like Whiskey.
The AAE Used Tack Store is open in its new location!

Shop AAE as another way to help horses. Donations of clean, gently used tack are always welcome, too, but if you can hold off another week or so to give us time to continue processing some of our inventory from the move, we would sure appreciate it! We really need some help cleaning tack right now, we have a backlog. Do you have a few hours to spare?
If you love tack, come shop!! If you like to clean tack, look at tack, just be around it, talk to people about tack, all in the same opportunity to help horses and AAE, we need YOU! We need volunteers to help us receive and process new tack, and sell surplus tack to support our operations. We'd also like to expand our hours, so if our current hours don't work for you, what does?
If you're interested in volunteering, please send us an email. We truly look forward to hearing from you, soon!
On Thursday, July 13, Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club and Lounge in Old Sacramento is hosting a comedy show fundraiser for AAE! Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm.
Tickets are $20, and $20 of every admission goes to AAE!
Sponsorship opportunities, from private family tables to exclusive business/corporate packages (and everything in between), range from $500 to $7500. Sponsor tables seat 12.
Sponsor packages are designed to provide branding exposure at Boots & Bling, through advertising and public relations, as well as potential exposure at the ranch in Pilot Hill and the tack store in Shingle Springs. We can work together to develop a package most beneficial to your business.
