Aspen Film Executive Director's Letter: October 2022

Hello Friends of Film,

We just wrapped our 43rd Aspen Filmfest and what an exciting week it was!

In addition to 17 great films, which included a celebration of the late Bob Rafelson and his THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, Aspen Film also had the honor and pleasure of announcing that we will be acquiring the Isis Theatre as our own!

We could not be more elated about this development and look forward to sharing details of our forthcoming capital campaign with you in the coming weeks.

And if you've visited the Isis recently, you may notice  that things look a bit different - that's because Bow Tie Management has taken over our day-to-day operations, and are making some wonderful changes, particularly with concessions and libation offerings!  Aspen Film is working closely with Bow Tie on programming and all things theater related, so please let us know if you have any suggestions.

On Friday we will be announcing our Filmfest Audience Award winners so stay tuned for that.

Regular deadline for SHORTSFEST 2023 submissions is TOMORROW!

Aspen Shortsfest is an Oscar®-qualifying film festival recognized as one of the premier short film festivals in North America. Each April enthusiastic audiences, filmmakers and special guests from around the globe gather to participate in public screenings, panels, workshops, and other festivities that spotlight the art and craft of short moviemaking.

Following in the festival's long tradition of Oscar® success, AFFAIRS OF THE ART by Joanna Quinn became the latest Shortsfest selection to be recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences when it was nominated for Best Animated Short Film in 2022, which followed its jury award in the comedy category at Shortsfest. In 2020, four more Shortsfest selections earned the same honor when DAUGHTER by Daria Kashcheeva and SISTER by Siqi Song were nominated for Best Animated Short Film while BROTHERHOOD by Meryam Joobeur and  NEFTA FOOTBALL CLUB by Yves Piat competed for Best Live Action Short Film.
