From: BirdFest and Bluegrass FestivalSpend time Downtown and on the Refuge during the annual Friends of the Refuge festival!
BirdFest & Bluegrass is a joint event planned in a partnership between the City of Ridgefield and the Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge that includes birding activities at the Refuge, vendors, kids crafts, Bluegrass performances, and a Pickers Festival.
DOWNTOWN RIDGEFIELD
Vendor Market – Davis Park, 9am-2pm
Explore over 40 local vendors at Davis Park from 9am to 2pm. Vendors include artisan bread and pastries, handmade crafts and gifts, artwork from local artists, snacks, ceramics and so much more.
BirdFest and Bluegrass Crafts – Davis, 9am-2pm
Make your own souvenir from the 2023 BirdFest and Bluegrass! Our craft tent will be fully loaded with supplies and instructions for you to make and take fun bird and bluegrass themed items. While supplies last.
Walk for the Wild 5K Kick-Off - Overlook Park, 11am
The 3-Mile walk begins at Overlook Park and goes through the Refuge. Visit the Friends of Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge website for more information. Registration is required.
Dragon Boat Paddle - Ridgefield Marina, 11am
Join in on one last paddle with the Dragon Boats for 2023! Registration is required.
Bluegrass Jamming – All Day!
Bring your string instrument and jam along with others at one of our dedicated jamming locations!

The River S Unit Auto Tour of Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge will be open during regular visiting hours!
Sandhill Crane Tours
6am & 5pm
This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear and see the magnificent flight of hundreds of Sandhill Cranes as they visit their night roost. Join expert staff to learn about cranes and wildlife. There will only be one day of yours this year, but they are free!
Participants will be asked to drive their personal vehicles a short distance to the roosting area, from the River ‘S’ Unit Contact Station. From there the group will be required to walk approximately 500 yards over rough, uneven terrain to get to a viewing blind. Please assess your own abilities for this event. Bring your own water. Space is extremely limited, RSVP early.
