Democrat,

Team Coalitions had a busy week! The Interfaith Committee held their monthly virtual prayer session with special guest Senator Britnee Timberlake. We are so proud of this committee as it truly exemplifies the intersectionality of all of our faith caucuses working together. Our Latino Caucus teamed up with Latinos for Harris for their New Jersey launch. We spent almost 2 hours with the Harris Campaign Latino Engagement Deputy Director and brainstorming creative ways for us to drive out Latino voters for Harris. Thanks to DNC Member Laura Matos and Latino Caucus Chair, Arlene Quiñones Perez for their incredible leadership with this effort! The Progressive and Latino Caucuses organized an affordability panel this week. And we concluded the week with a virtual discussion hosted by our Older Adult Caucus, featuring Congressman Frank Pallone, on topics including health care transparency, prescription drugs, and Social Security. Our South Asian American Caucus also tabled at India Fest providing voter information and education. This couldn’t be a clearer indication that New Jersey Democrats are organizing early and efficiently for Election Day 2024. We do not wait until September – our caucuses have shown that! Want to join in? There is truly a caucus for everyone and I consider myself a member of every single one.

Next week, the 2024 DNC Convention commences. Follow along with us on social media platforms as we share how New Jersey Democrats make their mark in Chicago!

Governor Murphy announced a transit fare holiday from August 26 to September 2, 2024, offering free rides on all NJ TRANSIT services as a thank you to loyal customers. Monthly pass holders with an August pass will receive a 25% discount on their September pass. This fare holiday aims to express appreciation for customers’ patience amid recent service issues and NJ TRANSIT’s commitment to improving the travel experience.

“Understanding that our commuters have faced many disruptions this summer, we are providing a one week fare holiday for NJ TRANSIT riders,” said Governor Murphy. “As we work diligently with Amtrak to investigate and address the issues that have occurred this summer, especially on the Northeast Corridor, we hope this fare holiday offers our commuters some relief. We also encourage New Jerseyans to take advantage of this opportunity, and we continue to be thankful to the many New Jerseyans who depend on public transit.”

New prices resulting from Medicare’s historic drug price negotiations, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, are anticipated to save Medicare beneficiaries $1.5 billion in out-of-pocket costs during the first year. This landmark change, achieved under the Biden-Harris Administration, allows Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices for the first time, reducing overall prescription drug costs by $6 billion and providing significant savings for seniors and people with disabilities on essential medications.

“Millions of seniors and others on Medicare will soon see a decrease in the cost of many of the most common and expensive prescription medications for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, blood clots, and more. This was made possible by the Biden-Harris administration’s historic Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law two years ago this week. As a result, countless seniors across America will no longer have to choose between paying for their medication and keeping up with the bills. While Donald Trump, JD Vance, and MAGA Republicans cozy up to greedy Big Pharma execs, the Biden-Harris administration took on Big Pharma and won — and as president, Vice President Harris will work to ensure every American can retire with dignity, protect Medicare and Social Security against MAGA attacks, and make health care affordable and accessible for all” said DNC National Press Secretary Emilia Rowland.
