The City of Brownsville, with the support of City Commissioner At-Large “B”, Dr. Rose Gowen, hosts the second of four tree planting remembrance ceremonies – as it moves forward with its Forest Remembers Project. The event will be held February 1st, at the City’s Brownsville Sports Park, located at 1000 Sports Park Boulevard in Brownsville, and will commence at 10:00AM. The general public is invited to attend and pay homage to those who lost their battle with COVID-19, while discovering a place of peace and meditation.

“The groves of trees we are planting at City parks are part of the Forest Remembers Project,” said Commissioner Gowen. “These special places are for all our residents to come, sit, remember, pray or meditate, on the family member or friend they lost to COVID-19. These special places are also meant to allow people to recall the many beautiful memories they created with their lost loved one. These trees will help us memorialize their life and legacy.”

The remembrance tree planting at Brownsville Sports Park will feature speakers that include City elected officials and City leaders, as well as community members who have lost a loved one to the pandemic. This remembrance tree planting is now the second City park to showcase a grove of trees – as part of this project. The first took place in December at Monte Bella Park in North Brownsville.
