From: City Of Corpus ChristiCCFD Purchases Life-Saving Equipment for Patients Experiencing Cardiac Arrest
The Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) recently purchased 15 new Lund University Cardiac Assist System (LUCAS) devices to administer mechanical chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. The devices, totaling $3 million, were purchased through the FY 2021 Texas Ambulance Supplemental Payment Program.
LUCAS devices provide consistent, hands-free, uninterrupted chest compressions while patients are being transported to the hospital. The devices allow medics to treat a patient’s other needs, including administering medication intravenously and maintaining an adequate airway.
“This cutting-edge technology will make the Fire Department more efficient when responding to cardiac arrest calls,” said CCFD Fire Chief Robert Rocha.
The additional machines allow the CCFD to place one in each of its 14 frontline medic units.
