Glendora, CA - On December 23, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Senate amendment to H.R. 2617, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, which provides $1.7 trillion to fund the federal government through fiscal year 2023. Over $33 million dollars for community project funding in the San Gabriel Valley are part of this legislation, which includes $5 million dollars for Glendora's People Movement Project.

"I am thrilled that the package also includes over $33 million in community project funding I requested that will go directly to the San Gabriel Valley to support projects that range from expanding access to dental care, increasing outdoor recreation in the San Gabriel Mountains through an Urban Shuttle system, and investing in affordable housing," Representative Judy Chu (CA-27) announced.

Glendora's People Movement Project is a strategic build out of over 10-miles of active transportation infrastructure. The People Movement Project would deliver key first/last mile improvements for the Metro L (Gold) Line and fully develop the Glendora Urban Trail System. The City anticipates completing design by December 2023 and commencing with construction in Spring 2024. The project is anticipated to be completed in late 2025 to coincide with the opening of the Metro L (Gold) Line extension to Pomona.

“As the population grows so does the need to get us from one place to another,” said Glendora Mayor Gary Boyer.  “It’s important we invest in options for future generations to have options in a variety of ways to get around.”

The People Movement Project costs an estimated $21 million, of which the City has raised $13.4 million for over the past 18-months. In addition to the $5 million just announced, the City of Glendora has already secured $6.9 million from Regional Transportation Funds and has committed an additional $1.5 million of local funds.

Major components of the People Movement Project include; Class I bicycle and pedestrian facilities along flood control channels; raised protected bicycle lane (Class IV); a protected intersection; a roundabout; crossing safety improvements; and a pedestrian plaza.
