From: City Of Ocoee

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the City of Ocoee recognizes the rich and diverse culture of its Hispanic and Latino residents who represent 22 percent of the city’s population.

The city acknowledges the many achievements and contributions of the Hispanic community and is proud to join the nationwide observance of Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15.

A Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation was read at the Ocoee City Commission meeting on September 20. Motorists traveling on Clarke Road will see festive “Ocoee Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month” pole banners along the street.

The city’s government station, Ocoee TV, is airing a series titled “Latino Americans: The 500-Year Legacy that Shaped a Nation.” “Latino Americans” is a landmark six-hour documentary featuring interviews with nearly 100 Latinos and more than 500 years of history. The series is the first major television documentary to chronicle the rich and varied history and experience of Latinos. For the past 500-plus years, Latinos have helped shape what is today the United States and have become, with 62 million people, the largest minority group in America.

Viewers can watch the seven, one-hour episodes streamed on Ocoee TV at https://www.ocoee.org/197/Ocoee-TV through the end of October.  All episodes start at 3 p.m. on these days: “Foreigner’s in Their Own Land” on Mondays; “Empire of Dreams” on Tuesdays; “War and Peace” on Wednesdays; “The New Latinos” on Thursdays; “Prejudice and Pride” on Fridays; “Peril and Promise” on Saturdays and “Famous Hispanic Americans” on Sundays.
