As the holiday season approaches we have historically seen an increase of opportunistic crime. Our officers are hard at work trying to prevent these crimes, but here is our crime prevention tip of the week:

Be cautious and aware of your surroundings while withdrawing money!

Unfortunately, some cities have seen a rise in “jugging” events. This is when a suspect follows a victim to a second location after the victim has withdrawn money from their financial institution like a bank or freestanding ATM. The suspect then robs the victim for the funds that they know they are in possession of.

Please be aware of your surroundings while withdrawing funds. If you feel that you are being followed from such an institution, please notify the Odessa Police Department immediately. Also, do not leave those funds unattended in a vehicle while you run other errands, as someone might be watching!
