Public Art Sculpture to be Unveiled at Auto Mall

WHAT: Revolution, a distinctive new public art sculpture by artist Heath Satow, will be unveiled at the Palmdale Auto Mall.

WHEN: Friday, December 2, 5 pm

WHERE: Auto Vista Drive and Carriage Way, just south of Technology Drive

WHO: Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer, Palmdale City Council Members, Palmdale Public Art Commission members, Artist Heath Satow, and Gus Camacho, with the Palmdale Auto Mall.

BACKGROUND: Revolution is a one-of-a-kind mirror-polished stainless-steel sculpture created by artist Heath Satow. The installation is a public-private partnership between the City and the Palmdale Auto Mall. The piece is part of the Palmdale Public Art program and represents the Public Art Commission’s first formal unveiling. Formed in 2021, the Public Art Commission has seven members nominated by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

The cost for the design, fabrication, transportation and installation was $185,000, paid for primarily through the Public Art fund. Maintenance of the sculpture and the roundabout will be the responsibility of the Palmdale Auto Mall Dealership Owners.

Heath Satow works primarily with mirror-polished stainless steel because of its visual variety. Satow is based in Ogden, UT, and has over 30 years’ experience creating public art worldwide, including in Dubai, South Korea, and throughout the United States. Satow attended North Carolina State University School of Design, where he graduated with honors with a concentration in sculpture. His piece “Ripple” was winner of the 2012 Americans for the Arts’ Public Art Network Award in Los Angeles and was commissioned by the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Commission.
