Desert Theatricals' Junior Theatre

Desert Theatricals Youth Theatre, sponsored by the Rancho Mirage Library & Observatory Foundation and funded through a generous gift from the Richard Brooke Foundation, will bring Aladdin Jr. to the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater on November 19 & 20, 2022.

Disney’s Aladdin JR. is based on the 1992 Academy Award®-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within.

The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. With expanded characters, new songs, and more thrills, this new adaptation of the beloved story will open up “a whole new world” for the young performers!

This event is free to the public however, registration is required.

Bighorn Sheep Recovery

The City of Rancho Mirage wants residents to be aware of possible helicopter activity in the city on Wednesday, November 9 and Thursday, November 10, 2022.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) will be performing a helicopter capture of Peninsular Bighorn Sheep within the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains, which includes Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians reservation, BLM non-wilderness, City of Palm Springs, and State lands. This activity is expected to begin at 7:00 am and complete around 5:00 pm each day. This is part of the Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) efforts to support the Peninsular Bighorn Sheep Recovery Plan. They will fit the bighorn sheep with brown collars and colored ear tags.

Museum CEO Turns Weeks of Training & Practice

Into $20,000 for CDMoD

Each year the Regional Access Project Foundation (RAP) Inc., NPO Centric and their generous sponsors host the Desert Fast Pitch Competition, where representatives from Valley non-profits take part in an eight-week course that gives them the opportunity to develop fundraising materials and ultimately emerge from the training with a three-minute pitch that each will compete with.

This year, of the 27 applicants, 12 were selected to compete at the Semi-Final Level and the final 6 competed for a total of over $65,000 for their charities.

Cindy Burreson, CEO of the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert, was the winner of the Grand Prize of $20,000 to help a project at the Museum that will make a notable difference in the lives of a segment of the population that often goes overlooked.

The $20,000 win will get CDMoD closer to their 2023 goal of reopening and reimagined experiences and programs.

Congratulations Cindy and CDMoD!
