The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. hosted an incredible 35th Annual Black History Celebration this morning. The theme was "Education & Scholarship: Then and Now," and recognized members of the community for their dedication to educating students and making an impact on student lives through scholarships or other educational assistance programs. Special thanks to keynote speaker Dr. Tonjua Williams, St. Petersburg College Campus President, and mistress of ceremonies Deanne King, News Anchor for News Channel 8. 

East Tampa Recreational Complex at Fair Oaks Community Input Session
The City of Tampa and Skanska Construction invite all East Tampa community members to participate in a community input session for the East Tampa Recreational Complex expansion project, which includes Fair Oaks Park and Herbert D. Carrington Sr. Community Lake. Attend the first meeting on February 15 from 6 pm – 8 pm at Middleton High School to learn about the project and share your feedback. Registration is required for in-person and virtual participation. There will also be a Teen Feedback Session on February 18 from 11 am – 1 pm at Fair Oaks Community Center. Teens must RSVP to [email protected]

Coffee with Castor
Enjoy a coffee with Mayor Castor, learn about important City of Tampa initiatives, and share your ideas at the next Coffee with Castor event on February 16 from 9 am – 10 am at Barksdale Community Center.

“Black Love” Series Returns to Tampa Theatre
There are two opportunities left to enjoy this season of the “Black Love Classic Movie Series presented by TECO,” centered around the theme “Home is Where the Heart Is.” Chosen in collaboration with the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Department, the films explore journeys of discovery and the roads that lead back, as told by Black filmmakers and diverse casts. 76th Annual Fiesta Day
Attend the 76th Annual Fiesta Day celebration on February 25 from 11 am – 6 pm in Ybor City along 7th Avenue. There will be food, fun, arts & crafts, and live entertainment. This family-friendly event is open to the public and free to attend.

Mayor Jane Castor wants resident feedback on how City officials can enhance the quality of life in your neighborhood. Join one (or all) of four upcoming listening sessions on the evenings of February 16, February 21, February 24, and February 27. 

Job of the Week
The Water Dept is hiring a Water Treatment Plant Operator (NT) to perform a variety of process control-related tasks including water treatment analysis and human-machine interface management within a state-licensed water production facility. Possession of (or the ability to obtain within 18 months) a valid Florida Class “C” Drinking Water Treatment Operator’s License and certification for Basic Mechanical skills is required.
