Mayor Jane Castor and Rep. Kathy Castor announced some of the new road safety projects coming soon to underserved communities within the City of Tampa. The projects will be paid for with new federal dollars under the Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant program. Watch the Facebook Live here.

Volunteer for the Annual Homeless Point-In-Time (PIT) Count

On February 23, volunteers will visit encampments, meal sites, shelters, and other locations frequented by our homeless neighbors throughout the day and evening. Sign up to participate in this endeavor that will help both the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County to better respond to unmet needs and gaps in service for homeless individuals, youth, and families. All volunteers must attend a pre-count training session; training sessions will be virtual via Zoom. Upon volunteer sign-up, you will be contacted to sign up for the 1.5 hour training. 

3R’s Art & Poetry Contest 

Do you know a student with artistic skills who wants to share a message of environmental stewardship through waste reduction? Students in 3rd – 12th grade attending schools or being homeschooled within the City of Tampa limits are encouraged to submit a piece to the 3R’s Art & Poetry Contest. A first-place winner will be selected from each of the following categories: Elementary, Middle, and High School. The winning artwork will be displayed on a recycling collection truck for one year. The winning poetry pieces will be on display at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park for a year. The submission deadline is February 8, 2023.

“Black Love” Series Returns to Tampa Theatre

The “Black Love Classic Movie Series presented by TECO” is back at Tampa Theatre! For its second season, the series centers around the theme “Home is Where the Heart Is.” Chosen in collaboration with the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Department, the films explore journeys of discovery and the roads that lead back, as told by Black filmmakers and diverse casts. 35th Annual City of Tampa Black History Celebration

Join us at the 35th Annual City of Tampa Black History Celebration on February 13 at 11 am at the Tampa Convention Center as we honor the rich history and cultural contributions of black leaders past and present. This year's event will feature live music, and performances while celebrating the achievements of local Black leaders and trailblazers. 

Southeast Seminole Heights Flooding Relief Project Update

Seminole Heights residents are invited to hear a construction update on the Southeast Seminole Heights Flooding Relief Project on February 22 at 6 pm at the A.W. Windhorst Lodge (5011 N Nebraska Ave). City staff will also discuss future work, including work on N Central Ave (north of Hillsborough) which could begin as early as March 1. The Technology & Innovation Division is hiring a Senior Applications Programmer to perform a variety of technical systems administration, systems analysis, and programming tasks. This position requires that the employees consult and collaborate with end user personnel, functional information technology (IT) personnel, and project team members to resolve technical issues and to implement and administer commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS).
