Did you know that since launching in July 2022, Tampa’s trash boat (the “Litter Skimmer”) has collected over 19,000 pounds of litter and debris from our waterways? Last weekend, the Litter Skimmer and City staff collected debris at the Lowry Park boat ramp for the First Annual Litter Buster Bash - hosted by the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association with support from the City of Tampa and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

Election Day

Election Day for the 2022 General Election is November 8. Voting sites in Hillsborough County will be open from 7 am – 7 pm.  Need a ride to your polling site? Bird scooter riders can use the promo code VOTE2022 for 2 free rides and HART is offering free rides for anyone with a valid voter information card.

Nominate A Veteran

The City of Tampa team invites you to donate to the United Way in honor of a veteran, and your nomination will be featured on our City website here. Honor as many veterans as you like (friends, family, etc.) with a suggested donation of $11.

Don’t Fall into the Trap: A Forum on Drug Abuse and Prevention

Tampa teens, their parents, and all interested individuals are invited to a FREE educational and interactive forum on drug abuse, prevention, and awareness on Wednesday, November 9 at 6 pm. This forum is sponsored by the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council, a program of the City of Tampa that allows local teens to develop their leadership skills and apply them through various service projects and workshops. Expert panelists will discuss the importance of drug abuse awareness, share their personal experiences, and speak about how to actively prevent addiction. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask each of the panelists questions directly in an open discussion. To RSVP, email [email protected].

Homeowners Night

Working on a home improvement project and can’t make it to the Development Services Center during regular business hours? Homeowner's Night is back! The Development Services Center will be open from 5 pm – 7 pm on November 15 for residents to take advantage of extended hours for assistance in submitting an application for residential alterations, additions and driveway remodels.

2022 Tampa Night Out

On November 15 from 5 pm – 8 pm, the Tampa Police Department will host the 2022 Tampa Night Out at Julian B. Lane Park. There will be a DJ, bounce house, food vendors, business vendors, firetruck, SWAT truck, Bike Unit, K9 Unit, and local neighborhood watch groups competing in the "Celebrating Tampa's History" contest. Local restaurants have been invited to participate in the "Chief's Best in the Bay" award and will be sampling their best dishes!

Veteran's Day Celebration Tennis Tournament

Join Tampa Parks & Recreation for a Veteran's Day Celebration Tennis Tournament on November 12 at Julian B. Lane Park. The event will kick off at 7 am with a performance by the SACA Golden Dragons and a Color Guard Presentation by the University of Tampa's ROTC. The Tennis Tournament will commence at 8 am and will include both Singles and Doubles Matches for Men, Women, and Juniors. 12th Annual Ybor City Tree Lighting Ceremony

Celebrate the start of the holidays at the 2022 Ybor City Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 16 at 6 pm. Enjoy live holiday entertainment, photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus, and free cookies & hot chocolate. Mayor Jane Castor will light the tree at 7 pm.

The Wastewater team is hiring an AWT Systems Compliance Specialist to be responsible for ensuring reliable access, compliance, and reporting to regulatory agencies from all groups at the Howard F. Curren Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWTP). Qualifications include graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or related field and three (3) years of experience in wastewater treatment plant regulatory, process control, industrial pre-treatment, environmental laboratory systems OR an associate degree in science, engineering or related field and five (5) years of experience in wastewater treatment plant regulatory compliance and submittals.

Meet Zoilami “Zoi” Sanchez, a Sewer Operations Planner/Scheduler for the Wastewater Department. She has worked for the City of Tampa for nine years and enjoys that her position requires constant coordination & cooperation, allowing her to learn new things every day.

What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy exercising every day. There is always room for improving and exercising directly improves my health.

What’s your favorite place in Tampa? The Tampa Riverwalk.  

You just won $1 million in the lottery. What are you going to do with it? Build a non-profit organization for stray animals and create opportunities through community work for students to get scholarships.
