Mayor Jane Castor, Councilwoman Hurtak, and the Housing & Community Development team announced the reopening of the Rental & Move-In Assistance Program to continue helping local renters facing financial hardship due to rising rent prices. The online portal will be open every Wednesday and Thursday until funds run out.

Storm-Related Yard Waste Collection

Pile all storm-related vegetative yard debris curbside in preparation for collection. This is for vegetation only (bushes, tree branches, palm fronds, etc). There is no need to call and report a special pickup. Please leave debris curbside until it can be collected. Note that this may not line up with your regularly scheduled collection day.

Post-storm collection began on October 3rd and it is expected to take up to 60 days to remove the debris created by Hurricane Ian. This is typical for a storm of this magnitude in a city the size of Tampa; we thank you for your patience during this time. We’ve collected an estimated 8,000 cubic yards so far – follow the progress using the Debris Cleanup Map.

Tampa Bay Citizens Academy on Transportation (TBCAT)

Are you interested in learning about how transportation projects are planned, prioritized, and implemented within the City of Tampa? Our Mobility Department has partnered with the University of South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation Research for the second year in a row to develop this FREE, virtual Tampa Bay Citizens Academy on Transportation (TBCAT) course to learn more about transportation in the City of Tampa! Guest speakers include the Florida Department of Transportation, Hillsborough Transit Authority, Hillsborough County, Florida Government, Hillsborough TPO, and more! The class begins October 12, so register now to save your spot! The class is capped at 25 participants.

Planning for Tampa’s Tomorrow Town Halls

Tampa's on the move! We want to hear your ideas, questions, and concerns on major planning initiatives to shape our transportation, growth, & development. Attend one of the town halls on October 11, October 18 (virtual), or October 24. Topics like solar energy, housing, community engagement, sustainability, flooding, and mobility will be discussed. Bridges to Business

Do you own a janitorial service? Join Bridges to Business on October 22 from 9am-1pm at the Cordelia B. Hunt Community Center to meet City purchasing representatives & receive one-on-one vendor certification assistance. This program is designed for minority, women-owned, or small businesses interested in becoming certified with the City of Tampa or businesses wishing to register as vendors. There will be opportunities for new janitorial service contracts will be available in late Winter 2022. Note: Pre-certification criteria must be met to receive one-on-one assistance. North Florida Ave Construction Update

Despite losing several days to Hurricane Ian, North Florida Avenue has reopened. Some remaining work will be done at night, under a full closure and detour, or in the daytime, using lane closures, once FDOT makes decisions on outstanding work. The Development & Growth Management Division is hiring Professional Plans Reviewers to perform technical reviews on professionally prepared documents for all proposed residential and commercial construction projects and for the review of residential and commercial site plans for compliance with transportation, landscape, stormwater, and zoning codes as required, as they relate to site construction issues.
