From: City Of Tampa

More than a train station, Tampa Union Station has been a landmark for generations of Tampa travelers and residents for 110 years. Mayor Jane Castor, the Friends of Tampa Union Station, and community members recently celebrated the restoration of Tampa Union Station's Baggage Building  - the first of many upcoming restoration projects at the station.

Forest Hills Park Groundbreaking

Join Mayor Jane Castor, Tampa City Council, City staff, and local leaders as they break ground at Forest Hills Park on November 30 at 10:30 am. The project includes stormwater and recreation improvements to the park site. The existing drainage ditch will be converted into a larger basin with safer slopes and increased capacity. The basin will be a usable lawn when dry. Material excavated to create the basin will be used to construct a multipurpose field (football, soccer, lacrosse, etc.) and rebuild sports courts at higher elevations to reduce flooding (basketball, tennis, pickleball, racquetball).  The project also includes a 0.6-mile paved fitness trail with seven ADA-accessible exercise stations.

Bridges to Business Subcontractor Outreach and Networking Event

Are you a subcontractor interested in working with the City or expanding your network? On December 15 from 2 pm – 5 pm at the Tampa Convention Center, meet and network with the City's Contract Administration Department, Purchasing Department, and Equal Business Opportunity staff in addition to partner agencies, sureties, insurance providers, and dozens of prime contractors for City of Tampa construction projects. Opportunities for construction subcontractors include general contractors, design-builders, and job order contractors.

Job of the Week

The Water Department is hiring a Consumer Services Manager to lead and manage the Consumer Services Division of the Water Department. This work is of unusual difficulty and involves the application of extensive initiative and independent judgment in directing and supervising the continuous operations of the utilities call center, meter reading, billing, and collections, as well as establishing service levels; recommending staff levels and expertise of staff.

Employee Spotlight

Meet Amanda Alfarah, Management Methods Analyst in the Solid Waste Department. She has worked for the City of Tampa for three years, and she enjoys that her position provides a unique opportunity to work with all of the divisions across the department. It has provided a well-rounded view of how complex the solid waste industry really is.

What’s your favorite of your position? I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my position the most.  When a problem arises during the work day, I enjoy working out the details with my team to find solutions that allow the Solid Waste Department to function more efficiently.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to spend my free time in nature, whether that means taking a walk, going kayaking, or heading to the beach, I make sure to spend at least an hour outside every day.

Where’s your favorite shop in Tampa? I love to go thrifting, not only is it environmentally friendly but you can find some hidden gems.  I recommend checking out La France in Ybor for some unique finds.

You can go anywhere in the world for free. Where would you go and why? The next place on my bucket list to visit is Machu Picchu. Since I am a nature lover, I would love to go hike the Inca Trail.
