City Urges Melrose Community to Take Free Youth Mental Health First Aid Course
Complete the course and add "Certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid" to your Resume.

Mayor Brodeur and the Directors of the Health and Human Services and Recreation Departments know that mental health challenges and substance use must be top priorities for the Melrose community. That’s why they decided to provide Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training courses to its residents, people who work in Melrose, and City employees—for free.

The City is currently urging the people of Melrose who are youth coaches, healthcare workers, caregivers, teachers, or work or interact with youth in any capacity to enroll in its upcoming Youth MHFA Class taking place over the course of two days—March 13 and March 15—from 5-9 p.m. in person at the Milano Center located at 201 West Foster Street.  To register, visit https://secure.rec1.com/MA/melrose-ma/catalog

Those who complete the course will be certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid, and will be able to more easily:

- Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); and

- Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges; and

- Understand how to interact with a young person in crisis; and

- Know how to connect a young person with help; and 

- Better understand trauma, substance use, self-care, and the impact of social media and bullying.

Program Notes:

- Light refreshments will be served.

- Must be 18+ years old to attend.

- Must be a Melrose resident or work in Melrose.

- Certificate upon completion.

- Only register for 1 training per person.
