Greetings!
The 2022 Osprey Nation report came out today, and we now have 9 years' of data tracking the Osprey population in Connecticut.
The volunteers (900-plus since 2014) have mapped nest locations and collected information to use as an indicator of possible environmental problems.
Those volunteers are the foundation of Osprey Nation. All of us at Connecticut Audubon appreciate them more than we can say. The data they are compiling will prove essential to conservation in Connecticut
This year's Osprey Nation numbers:
Volunteers: 385
Active Osprey nests: 606
Fledgling Ospreys: 835
The number of fledglings is a bit lower than last year. You can read the details on our website and in the annual Osprey Nation report, prepared by Breanne Ellis, the 2022 Osprey Nation coordinator. As always it's well done — concise and easy to understand.

Homegrown Witch Hazel
The only medicinal plant approved by the FDA as a nonprescription drug has deep roots in Connecticut's history.
It also happens to be a great addition to your property if you want to attract more birds and other wildlife.
I think you'll really enjoy this month's Homegrown Habitat. Click here
EcoTravel
My colleagues at EcoTravel want you to know that for the heartiest of birders, they are planning a plethora of amazing winter day trips. A,mog the highlights: Block Island, the mainland coast of Rhode Island, and Jamaica Bay and the Shawangunk National Wildlife Refuge in New York (no guarantees, but even I've seen Short-eared Owls there in winter).
Visit
Thanksgiving weekend is a great time to visit our sanctuaries and centers. Trails are in good shape and there are plenty of birds around (41 Snow Buntings and 15 Horned Larks at the Milford Point Coastal Center the other day, for example).
Find our centers here.
Find our sanctuaries here.
Enjoy your walks.
Finally, a sincere thank you to everyone who has joined, donated, visited, volunteered, or even just read my emails over the past year. Happy Thanksgiving!
