From: Creative 360Midland, MI - On Friday August 18th at 11:30 am, Creative 360 will hold its first event in their new Jefferson Avenue space as they honor former Midland resident Carol Coppage as part of their iconic Yes, We Can! series. The Yes, We Can! program began in 2014 as a way to honor 80 + year old residents of the Great Lakes Bay region who have changed the area for the better with their work, volunteerism, and community service.
“Carol Coppage was a force for creativity in our community,” remarked curator and program director Colleen Reed. “As the Director of the Alden B Dow Creativity Center, she is the reason that Creative 360 had a chance to exist!”
Carol’s career began in the sciences and ended up in the arts and creative endeavors. After moving to Midland in 1961 with husband John, her fascination with art history and her tireless work as a volunteer led to an administrative position at the Midland Art Council of the Midland Center for the Arts. She then took on the role of Director at the Alden B. Dow Creativity Center, teaching classes on creative behavior, supervising the Fellowship Residency Program, and establishing the International Conference on Creativity in Colleges and Universities. Carol organized the Alden B. Dow Archives and eventually became Director of the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio. She retired in 1998 and now enjoys an active and interesting life in California.
“We are thrilled to offer a program honoring a person so vital to the creation of our organization as our first event at our new space,” commented executive director Laura Vosejpka. “It will be a celebration of original AND new beginnings!”
Tickets for the luncheon, which is Friday, August 18th from 11:30 – 1:00, with music by the Colin Wood Quartet starting at 11 am, are available on a first come, first served basis through August 10th. Register online at becreative360.org or by calling 989-837-1885.
