UPCOMING EVENTS

LEGO Free Play
Mondays, June 5th and 12th, 4 p.m.
Join us for an afternoon of free play where you can build with LEGOs to your heart's content. We provide the LEGO pieces and you can provide the imagination. Please note: children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult in the Storytime Room for the duration of the child's play.
Ages 5 to 12.  No registration required.

COFFI Kid Connections: Pride Month
Friday, June 9th, 4 p.m.
In partnership with COFFI (The Coalition of Families for Inclusion), we will read stories that highlight diverse points of view, then do a quick craft to further connect with and celebrate this perspective.  
Ages 4 to 10.

Family Movie Matinee: Pixar Short Films
Thursday, June 15th, 2 p.m.
Have some popcorn on the Children's Library and bring the family for a matinee movie! From the creative minds who brought you "The Incredibles," "Finding Nemo," and "Toy Story" comes Disney and Pixar's latest collection of delightful and inspiring animated stories, "Pixar Shorts: Volume 3." 
Rated PG. Runtime: 76 minutes.
Ages 3 and up with a caregiver. No registration required.

DIY Natural History Museum Bookends
Friday, June 16th, 2 p.m.
We will reuse animal puzzle pieces and turn them into cool bookends (inspired by the American Museum of Natural History) for your bookshelf. Get ready to sand, glue, and paint as you put your own creative spin on your bookend design.
Ages 8 to 12.

Glitter Duct Tape Bracelets
Tuesday, June 20th, 4 p.m.
Create your own upcycled bracelet using paper towel tubes, your choice of duct tape print, and lots of glitter!
Ages 3 to 6. 

Making Comics with author Wendy Xu
Wednesday, June 21st, 4 p.m.
This comic creation class will feature an interactive drawing demonstration with Wendy! As a class, everyone will help to design a dragon inspired by Wendy's graphic novel, Tidesong. Then you'll get to design your own magical creature.
Ages 8 to 18.

Under the Sea Aquarium
Thursday, June 22nd, 2 p.m.
Create your own underwater seascape in this craft program using dot markers, art supplies, and glue.
Ages 3 to 5.

Food Explorers: Strawberry Mousse Cups
Thursday, June 22nd, 4 p.m.
Level up your cooking skills with a registered dietitian while building up knowledge about food and nutrition that will impress your friends and family.
Ages 7 to 12.

Let's Pretend!: Theater for Preschoolers
Monday, June 26th, 9:30 a.m.
Beloved theatre teacher Ingrid Schaeffer will lead young participants and their parents in this imaginative class: all you need is a willingness to participate!
Ages 4 to 5.

Children's Theater Workshop: The Gruffalo
Monday, June 26th, 10:30 a.m.
Come and perform The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Under the direction of Ingrid Schaeffer, you'll act out this story with fun costumes and props.
Ages 6 to 10.

All Things Rainbow!
Tuesday, June 27th, 9:30 a.m.
Participants will listen to the book, Little Pip and the Rainbow Wish by Elizabeth Baguley and Caroline Pedler, before acting out a few moments of the story. Then everyone will create their own rainbow mobiles to take home!
Ages 5 to 7.

Rainbow Window Art
Tuesday, June 27th, 10:30 a.m.
Learn about how real rainbows are made! You will make your own recycled rainbow from plastic, tissue paper, glue, and construction paper to hang in your windows at home.
Ages 8 to 10.

Mini Masterpieces: Kandinsky
Wednesday, June 28th, 4 p.m.
Learn about some incredible artists from around the world in this Mini Masterpieces series! In each class, we will introduce you to a new artist and re-create one of their works of art. This week, we will focus on the abstract art of Russian painter, Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944).
Ages 3 to 6. 

Children's Theater Workshop: Fraidyzoo
Thursday, June 29th, 1 p.m.
Come and perform Fraidyzoo by Thyra Heder. All you need to participate in this theater workshop is an active imagination!
Ages 6 to 10.

Join us and perform The Sky is Falling by Mark Teague. All you need to participate in this theater workshop is an active imagination!
Ages 6 to 10.

Outdoor Baby Laptime
Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m.
Join us for fingerplays, songs, and bounce rhymes in this lapsit storytime in the courtyard!  In the event of rain, this storytime will move to our Community Room.
Pre-walking babies up to 18 months with a parent or a caregiver.

Outdoor Toddler Storytime
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.
Join in the fun at Toddler Storytime in the courtyard! This storytime will feature fun songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and stories. In the event of rain, this storytime will move to our Community Room.
Ages 18 months to 3 years. 

Saturday Storytime with author Valerie Bolling
Saturday, June 10th, 11 a.m.
Families are invited to listen to local author Valerie Bolling read aloud from a selection of her wonderful picture books. We will get our wiggles out with some movement and music between these delightful stories. Barrett Bookstore will sell copies of the picture books, which can be signed by the author herself.
Recommended for families with children aged 3 and up.

Storytime at Cherry Lawn Park
Wednesday, June 14th and 28th, 10 a.m.
Join us for outdoor storytime, where we'll wiggle and laugh along to action-oriented books, fingerplays, songs, and rhymes that focus on early literacy skills. Please bring a blanket or towel to sit on. 
Co-sponsored with Darien Parks and Recreation.
Walkers up to 36 months.

Music with Joy Blooms and Al deCant: Hats!
Friday, June 16th, 10:30 a.m.
Bring your favorite hat and join Al deCant and Joy Blooms for a special interactive music show! Learn about the many hats people wear and how those hats make us who we are. This fun performance will make kids consider what hat they might want to wear when they grow up.
Ages 1 to 5 years.

Children's Library Display Case
Does your child collect anything? Whether it's LEGOs, stuffed animals, or international editions of Harry Potter, we want to hear from you!
