“Trayon White has failed to deliver. And that was before he was arrested.”

Washington, DC - On August 21, 2024, the DC Republican Party called on DC Councilmember Trayon White to immediately end his reelection campaign and formally withdraw from the November 5th General Election. White was arrested by the FBI this week and charged with taking bribes. The deadline for White to remove his name from the ballot is September 12th.

“Residents of Ward 8 suffer from the District’s highest rates of violent crime, unemployment, truancy, juvenile malnutrition, and infant mortality. Nearly every metric measuring quality of life is worst in Ward 8. The residents who Trayon White represents have great needs and deserve to be represented by a person able to advocate for their well-being effectively,” said Patrick Mara, Chairman of the DC Republican Party.

“For eight years, Trayon White has failed to deliver. And that was before he was arrested,” said Mara. “In the weeks and months ahead, Trayon will not solely focus on his constituents; rather, his fate will take precedence. Suppose Trayon White truly cares about Ward residents. In that case, he will end his reelection campaign and allow voters to choose a candidate who can prioritize their needs and effectively advocate for the resources required to improve quality of life in Ward 8.”

“I also urge the DC Democrat Party, for whom Trayon is its nominee, to call on him to end his reelection bid. Now is not the time to be silent,” said Mara.

The DC Republican Party is comprised of registered Republicans living throughout the District of Columbia in all eight wards who are nominated and elected to serve as members. It is a state party with three elected members of the 168-member Republican National Committee.
