During National School Lunch Week, NV Dems Launch Ad Targeting Families Across Nevada Paying More For School Meals Because Of Lombardo

On Oct 17th, the Nevada State Democratic Party launched a digital ad targeting zip codes in Washoe, Carson, Douglas, Elko, Lander, Lincoln, and Storey counties, reminding hardworking Nevadans there that the reason thousands of families in their communities are spending more money this year than last year on school meals for their kids is because of Joe Lombardo’s veto of AB250. Because these districts are not eligible for the Community Eligibility Provision they  felt the brunt of Joe Lombardo’s veto.

Washoe County School District drained its savings to cover school meals for the first month of the school year, and Republicans in the State Legislature stood by Joe Lombardo’s veto calling the program a “waste of money.” Lombardo’s veto is in lockstep with the extremist provisions in his endorsed candidate Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, which also wants to drastically curtail access to nutritious meals for students. Trump’s MAGA-Project 2025 agenda would completely eliminate the Community Eligibility Provision in the federal school food program that benefits hundreds of Nevada public schools.

“During National School Lunch Week, NV Dems are reminding hardworking families that Lombardo and NVGOP legislators called school meals a waste. Lombardo’s veto did the most harm to Nevada’s rural communities that have now lost guaranteed access to school meals, impacting parents’ pockets and students’ health and success,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Carlos Perez. “Parents in these counties will have to pay more this year than last year for school meals and students will no longer have the guarantee of being able to eat at school.”
