Apprentice Spotlight: Conner Larocque
Conner Larocque (Class of ‘20) joined the Eli Whitney Museum as an apprentice in the Fall of his freshman year at Hamden High. He was an occasional camp attendee as a child, drawn to the quirkiness of the museum. His friends and former apprentices, Micah Fleischman and Jonah Heiser, introduced him to the apprentice program and encouraged him to apply.
Conner is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In his free time, he enjoys exploring new designs at the campus maker space such as laser-cut airfoils. Conner is also a member of Lehigh University’s Formula SAE team (@Lehighracing), where he is responsible for suspension design. His team will travel to Michigan for a national competition this May.
At the Eli Whitney Museum, Conner learned a wide array of design and fabrication skills. As an apprentice, he was most appreciative of the opportunity to solve problems and to be supported in that process. Conner steadily expanded his skills in the apprentice program, and he was encouraged to tackle more advanced design and fabrication challenges as he became a senior apprentice. Conner came back to the museum last summer to teach Laser Cut Design Challenge.
This summer, Conner will be embarking on a new frontier with an internship at SpaceX in Brownsville, Texas. He will be working on tooling for Starship. Congratulations, Conner!

The World Map at King/Robinson School
Last month, we installed the detailed and educational world map that King/Robinson's 6th grade students built with us!
King/Robinson's 6th grade students visited the Eli Whitney Museum two days last December to learn about animal migration.
We are grateful for the support from the International Association of New Haven that made this collaboration possible.
Feeling the Love at The Towers
Last month we were warmly welcomed to work with residents at the Towers for a Valentine's Day-themed project!
