Celebrate the magic of the A.C. Gilbert train show with us! 

Operate trains through the model of downtown New Haven from the 1920s, build your own train set, and take a tour of our original factory model through the holiday season!

Fall 2022 Apprentice Cohort

Apprentices at the Whitney Workshop are the backbone of nearly everything we do! 

This Fall, 14 new apprentices will join our current group of over 60 high school and middle school students from southern CT. Together they work to make the Eli Whitney Museum & Workshop a success.

Staff Update!

EWM warmly welcomes our new Educator, Laura McGowan!

Laura is a museum educator, art teacher, mom, and founder of Soul Haven Arts, which provides art workshops to children in public spaces. Through her teaching, Laura aims to give children the tools they need to connect with art in the world around them. Fostering curiosity is at the center of Laura’s work... click here for more about Laura.

Introducing New Board Members

During our Annual Meeting on October 20th, 2022, former board member, James (Jim) Whitney, announced three nominations to the EWM Board of Directors. Jim has been on the Eli Whitney Museum Board for over four decades and has helped to guide three directors with their visions during that time. Like Jim, other long-term members have left their formal board positions to give room for new voices and expertise to be added to the organization.

We are excited to introduce John Bianchi, Darrell Wilson, and Alex Kleiner to our

2022-2023 Board of Directors!

John Bianchi

John is a native of the New Haven area. He studied engineering from URI and worked as an engineer up until the early 2000s. John is now the owner and founder of Residential Renaissance LLC,

a home construction company based in North Haven where he now lives with his wife and four kids.

Darrell Wilson

Darrell is a Hamden native who graduated from Hamden High School. He went on to study at SCSU and then earned his MBA from Albertus Magnus College. Darell is now a VP of Operations Strategy & Integrated Business Planning at Pratt & Whitney. He lives in Wallingford with his fiancé and two daughters.

Alex Kleiner

Alex is a New Haven native and enjoyed Eli Whitney Museum summer camps in his youth. After attending Yale and later Harvard Business School, Alex spent a decade in California where he worked in technology. He is now a Partner at Rubicon Technology Partners and lives in New Haven with his wife and two children.

The Whitney Workshop in the Community

We have been busy teaching a full roster of new programs across the state this fall! Our highlight for this month is the work that long-time educator, Wanda Faison, is doing with IRIS of New Haven. Wanda has over 12 different projects planned for her group. She will continue meeting with her group twice a week.
