Exhibition - Hidden Messages at Farmington Valley Arts Center

Arts and Entertainment

July 15, 2024

From: Farmington Valley Arts Center

An Exhibit by the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center

At the Weaving Center we practice the philosophy of "open to all." In the artisan program, our team works with over 55 volunteers and 30 artisans to create our hand-woven products. Across our community we represent a large variety of age, gender, background and race; all of us working towards the goal of enriching lives through hand-weaving. Each member of our community is vital in our process: we share ideas, cooperate on tasks, and collaborate to create gorgeous and unique textiles. Every textile that we create has had many hands in its realization: Our volunteers wind warps, set up looms, fringe scarves, sew fabric into finished products, and support the artisans in a million different ways. Our artisans work diligently and joyfully on their projects. Our staff works both with the volunteers and the artisans, coordinating the flow of design, weaving process, and finishing. This collaborative and community spirit is actively practiced every day at the Weaving Center.
