We are thrilled to announce the 2024-2025 season of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, under the masterful direction of conductor Timothy Verville. This season promises to be an extraordinary journey through timeless classics, compelling new compositions, and the inspiring artistry of our talented performers. And along the way, we’re going to loosen up and have some fun!
Season Highlights:
Beloved Classics: Experience the brilliance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, the enchantment of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, and the dynamic charm of Copland's Appalachian Spring.
Guest Artists: We are honored to welcome the remarkable pianist Robert Henry, the captivating tenor Tim Miller, and the Grammy award winning Atlanta Boy Choir.
GSO Jazz!: Enjoy electrifying performances by our phenomenal GSO Jazz ensemble, featuring the genre-defying music of Miles Davis and the masters of West Coast Swing.
GSO Chorus: Our GSO Chorus will present the incomparable Fauré Requiem, a masterwork that promises to touch the soul.
World Premiere: Be part of history with the world premiere of Requiem Americano, an award-winning composition by our very own Timothy Verville.

VERVILLE: Requiem Americano (World Premiere)
In the GSO season finale, we delve into various perspectives on American life. The beloved ballet music from Copland’s "Appalachian Spring" beautifully captures a wedding ceremony between a husband and a pioneer woman in rural Pennsylvania, evoking the simplicity and serenity of their life. In stark contrast, the world premiere of "Requiem Americano" uses the music of America to address pressing societal issues such as anti-immigration sentiment, hypercommercialism, gun violence, social isolation, and disproportionate incarceration. Enhancing this powerful performance, the GSO will be joined by tenor Timothy Miller, the Atlanta Boy Choir, and the GSO Chorus.

Eternal light—lux perpetua—is an image of hope that transcends life and death. Experience this light as the GSO Chorus and Orchestra present Gabriel Fauré’s haunting “Requiem” and other selections from the British choral school, an African-American spiritual, and a Buddhist mantra set by a contemporary Canadian composer.

Prokofiev’s classic "Peter and the Wolf" brings to life the tale of a young boy on an adventurous exploration, narrated to enhance the experience. As he meets several new animal friends, the arrival of a ferocious wolf turns the adventure into a thrilling quest. Villagers band together to hunt the wolf and protect the town, leading to an unexpected twist. Additionally, the GSO will perform Holst’s lively "St. Paul’s Suite," a delightful piece originally composed for the students at the school where Holst taught.
