From: GlideDear Friends,
Being the President & CEO of GLIDE for the past five years has been the honor of a lifetime. I am so proud to have built upon the legacy of Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani, guided by GLIDE’s values of unconditional love and radical inclusion. It is with great emotion to share with you that I will be leaving my position in early 2023.
Over the last five years, GLIDE has consistently been called to meet new challenges and to step up to increasing needs. We launched an ambitious five-year strategic plan – GLIDE Forward – that allows us to reach more people and to deepen our impact as we fight systemic injustices, create pathways out of crisis and poverty, and empower individuals, families, and children to achieve stability and thrive. We opened a new chapter of GLIDE that is independent and free of the United Methodist Church, clearing the path for the progress we've made in building a truly inclusive organization. We strengthened the Center for Social Justice to advocate for large-scale policy and systems change, and we launched the Center for Applied Learning and Impact to better address poverty and homelessness in San Francisco. Throughout the COVID pandemic, our incredible direct service staff remained resilient and strong, delivering life-saving services to those in need on Ellis Street and across the City.
With the help of our generous community, GLIDE’s talented team, and the continued leadership of GLIDE’s Board, we have built upon GLIDE’s enduring legacy as a beacon of hope to position the organization for success and impact. GLIDE is stepping up in bold, new ways to break cycles of poverty, impact health outcomes, increase food and housing security, and proactively change systems to promote justice and equity for all. GLIDE’s enduring impact is illustrated in our newly released 2022 Impact Report, which I hope you will take the time to read.
Moving forward, I am confident that GLIDE will be in capable hands. GLIDE Board Member Malcolm Walter will serve as Interim CEO while a new national search begins, and of course Marvin K. White, our Minister of Celebration, will continue to lead and inspire our spiritual community. They look forward to connecting with you in the near future.
GLIDE issued a press release on December 8, 2022 announcing these changes.
Thank you for your support as GLIDE continues to serve the needs of our community and push for bold systems changes that are always, and forever, for the people.
With love and in solidarity,
