From: Greater West Bloomfield Historical SocietyThe Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society (GWBHS) is excited to announce its spring programming for March and April 2023! These programs are made possible through different community partnerships. Please contact GWBHS or visit our website for additional information.
Open Houses: The Orchard Lake Museum is open to the public on the following dates from 1:00PM to 4:00PM on May 7, 14, and 19. Admission is free, but donations are welcome! Visitors can explore our permanent exhibits that interpret local area history and culture.
During the May 14 Open House, visitors can learn about the agricultural history of the area. Most of the surrounding area was a farming community until the 1940s! Visitors can try their hand at antique farming tools and other activities.
Apple Island Volunteer Training: We will be holding a training session for those interested in volunteering for this year’s Apple Island Tours on Wednesday, May 10, at 7:00PM at the Orchard Lake Museum. There are many positions available including docents at the Museum and tour guides on Apple Island. Those interested in this opportunity should email [email protected] or call (248) 757-2451.
51st Greater West Bloomfield Michigan Week: Join us on Friday, May 12 at 7:00AM for the 51st Greater West Bloomfield Michigan Week Community Awards Breakfast. This event takes place at Temple Israel (5725 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield). Greater West Bloomfield volunteers give their time, talent, and personal resources on a daily basis without regard for recognition or promotion. We invite you to help us celebrate and recognize these individuals and organizations that serve our community year-round. GWBHS is a proud sponsor of this event! Memorial Day Parades: GWBHS is looking for volunteers to join them in Memorial Day Parades on the morning of May 29. Volunteers are invited to walk, bike, or drive their classic car. A golf cart with a hitch is needed to pull a carriage. Those interested should contact [email protected].
