Griffith Park Shakespeare Festival - As You Like It

Arts and Entertainment

July 12, 2024

From: Griffith Park Shakespeare Festival

By William Shakespeare

Fall in love this summer with our As You Like It, a screwball romantic comedy with songs inspired by 1930’s crooner, Al Bowlly.

Irrepressible cousins, Rosalind and Celia, fall afoul of the Duke, and make their escape into the Forest of Arden. There, they discover a world of vivid characters and romantic possibilities. When class and gender boundaries shatter, they discover both themselves and a beguiling truth: transformation is always possible.

In the hour before the performance, you’re invited to explore the world of the play during an immersive prologue. There, you will have the opportunity to interact with characters as well as learn a few secrets. Once the play begins, you’ll get cozy in your spot and enjoy one of Shakespeare’s most heartfelt and witty comedies.

One of Shakespeare’s most popular plays offers a powerful choice: natural order as experienced by the banished Duke and his followers in the forest vs. a selfish, superficial consumer society represented by the usurping Duke Frederick. Those who go on this adventure in the Forest of Arden find that with class and gender boundaries shattered, they discover themselves and a tolerance for others.
