Heritage Farm Museum And Village - 50 Year Celebration

Arts and Entertainment

March 10, 2023

From: Heritage Farm Museum And Village

Dear Friend of the Farm-

Mom and Dad moved to the Farm in 1973, FIFTY years ago! To celebrate this milestone of the Farm, we are trying to complete several new exhibits prior to our May 6th Spring Festival.

The first is a new permanent exhibit entitled “A History of Heritage” which will tell the story of the land itself from the Native Americans, Savage Land Grant, German Dairy farmers, Mom & Dad to now, Heritage Farm. The room (located on the first floor of Heritage Hall) will act as a welcome center for guests to learn more about the Farm (its past, purpose and future) as well as being able to seat up to 50 guests (i.e. it can seat 2 school groups or an entire motor coach) for a newly updated video introduction to the Farm prior to their tour.

Speaking of the land, our second new project is to bring back some of its original inhabitants to the Farm. We are working with the WV Department of Agriculture to allow a mating pair of elk to be added to our growing number of heritage breeds.

The third addition will be a fun, family friendly musical entitled "Down in the Holler," which will tell the story of Heritage Farm through the eyes of its two original lovers, Mike and Henriella. Former MU professor Jesse Nolan, whose family used to come to the Farm every week prior to their move to Florida, has created a masterpiece. The two-person show is about 40 minutes long and is perfect for presentation to the general public at the Farm and motor coach groups or even as a traveling show to schools and other venues. Jesse and his wife will be premiering the show at our May 6th Spring Festival.

We have had several nice donations and grants towards these projects but still need about $30,000. Farm Friends, Gary and Jo Ann White, have kindly offered us a $7,500 challenge grant to match dollar for dollar any donations up to that amount so, with your help, we could fully fund the new projects in time for the Spring Festival!

If you are able to help in any amount in this regard, please send a check to the Heritage Farm Foundation at 3300 Harvey Road, Huntington, WV 25704 or you may donate online below.

If you have any questions or have other funding suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for all you do for the Farm and our community. I hope to see you in the Spring!
