Formerly Pioneer Day, Heritage Fest has expanded to include activities from different periods and fun for all ages. A day full of games, food, activities, and vendors at the Museum and Andres Park next door, Heritage Fest is free and welcome to all!

History inspired games, crafts, music, and more.

What to Expect at Heritage Fest 2023:

- Crafts and games provided by The Floyd County Museum
- All day free admission to the museum
- Model Railroad Club room in the museum open to the public
- Historic Costumes
- Traditional Norwegian folk music by Vidar Skrede (Did you know there were many Norwegian immigrants to Iowa during the pioneer era?)
- “PLAY BALL!” The early Iowa way:   What team sports did the people of Iowa play during the 19th century, a time when there was no football, basketball and even baseball was in its infancy?  One of the sports they enjoyed was the venerable old game of cricket which was brought to Iowa by the many English immigrants who settled in the state.  As a result more than a dozen state towns had cricket clubs during that period. Visitors to this year’s Heritage Day on July 29 will  have an opportunity to personally experience this little known sporting legacy by joining in the short, informal, 19th century cricket games that American cricket player and historian Tom Melville will be conducting throughout the day. Games will be run on a continuous walkup basis and are open to all. Absolutely no experience required! So come and discover what else “play ball”  meant to the people of Iowa in the 19th century!
