COLDWATER, MI - As the curtains rise on another exhilarating season at Tibbits Summer Theatre, the stage welcomes back hometown talents, marking a significant moment in the theatre's illustrious history.

John Scheidler, a Coldwater native with a storied career spanning teaching, acting, fight choreography, and directing, returns to the Tibbits stage with a wealth of experience garnered from stages far and wide. With memberships in Actor’s Equity Association and certification with the Society of American Fight Directors, Scheidler enriches the theatrical landscape of the region.

His extensive professional engagements, including collaborations with esteemed institutions like Alabama Shakespeare Festival and New York City Opera, underscore his stature as a luminary in the theatre world. Having cut his teeth in the theatrical realm during his high school years with Tibbits, Scheidler's triumphant return speaks volumes about the enduring allure of the cherished institution. Notably, his last performance on the Tibbits stage was in "Biloxi Blues" in 1993, alongside Peter Riopelle and Brenda Sparks, shortly after their graduation from WMU.

Reflecting on his recent stint at Tibbits, Scheidler remarked, "It was wonderful being a part of the Tibbits summer stock season again! I love this space—it is the most beautiful theatre I’ve ever performed in and holds deep personal significance for me. Having spent many summers here throughout my middle and high school years, it truly feels like coming home. The opportunity to help stage some fight scenes for 'Sweeney Todd' was a treat, especially collaborating with old friends like Mychelle, Brenda, and Paul. I had a great time figuring out blood effects and staging with the director and cast. And I got to walk out on the stage almost every day and see the house, that chandelier, and the fly system that just says 'home' to me."

Making their debut on the Tibbits Summer Theatre stage is Sara "Serendipity" Odom, a Coldwater native and the child of dedicated volunteers Curtis and Laura Odom. Serendipity's parents are steadfast fixtures at the theatre, tirelessly contributing to Tibbits' advancement, highlighting the Odom family's deep-rooted commitment to its success.

Raised amidst the theatre's vibrant atmosphere, Serendipity’s artistic journey is intertwined with Tibbits' rich history. Their presence and versatility infuse the stage with fresh energy and dynamic range, embodying characters with depth and nuance. They have been captivating audiences with remarkable performances since the beginning of the Summer Theatre season

Rounding out the trio is Chad Tallon, assuming the mantle of interim artistic director, bringing with him a wealth of experience garnered over a decade-long tenure with Tibbits. Tallon, a fixture in Coldwater despite not being originally from the area, has established himself through his deep involvement with Tibbits and the community. His commitment to artistic excellence and unwavering dedication to the craft underscore his suitability for this pivotal role.

Reflecting on his appointment, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to steer Tibbits into its next chapter during this transitional period. Tallon stated, "Together, we will continue to uphold the legacy of excellence that defines our institution."

As the current season unfolds with these hometown talents at the forefront, Tibbits Summer Theatre remains steadfast in its mission to captivate audiences with compelling narratives and unforgettable performances. With a lineup brimming with talent and a commitment to artistic innovation, Tibbits reaffirms its status as a cultural beacon in the heart of Coldwater.
