The Hull Lifesaving Museum's Mary Evelyn Sparrow collection of magic lantern slides, photographs and correspondence offers a rare glimpse into the life of a Lifesaving Station Keeper's wife. Yet, Mary Evelyn Sparrow defied the limitations of the traditional domestic role, and instead took on the task of championing the US Lifesaving Servicemen, raising public awareness and advocating for government support through her magic lantern slide presentations. Join us to learn more about this unique collection and exceptional woman.

Hosted by Hull Public Schools in Partnership with The Hull Lifesaving Museum
Please join us at the Hull Lifesaving Museum Boathouse for a short ceremony followed by the launch of the SSG Emily M. Carroll with the Hull High School woodshop boat-building team on board.
The 18 foot power skiff was built by Hull High School students, along with HHS woodshop teacher, Derek Skapars and Hull Lifesaving Museum Executive Director, Michael McGurl.
This project was made possible in part by funding from US Rowing and the Mass Cultural Council.

Lifelong sailor, Steve Dahill has written a trilogy of fictional sea adventures. Inspired by the true story of the Mary Celeste, found adrift and deserted in the Atlantic Ocean off the Azores on December 4, 1872, this first book, Secrets of the Mary Celeste, explores the possible scenario of this ill-fated ship discovered adrift without a living soul aboard.

Sunset & Full Moon Photo Shoot

If you missed the opportunity to view the full moon on August 1st, don't despair, this month we'll have a second full moon, known as a "Blue Moon" on August 30. All are invited to come with cameras in hand to the sea wall opposite the Hull Yacht Club to capture the sunset over Boston Harbor then turn east to shoot the rising moon.
Local photographer Sean Baggett will be on hand to share his tips and techniques for setting your camera to the best settings for capturing moon photography.

Mariner of the Month
August's "Mariner of the Month" is Devon Smith, a recognizable, energetic presence at HLM. Devon is an instructor of the new Explorer Program for youth, She is also a special education teacher in Hingham and has a deep maritime background from her time around the sea and as a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Our Summer Adventure program is well underway through August 24. Each week includes hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and a fun mix of history, science and arts.

Friday Morning En Plein Air
It's not too late to join local artists, professional & amateur alike on Friday mornings throughout the summer for En Plein Air painting around the many scenic spots in Hull.
All artists are welcome to participate, from beginners to professionals painting typically from 9am - noon. Please bring materials of your choice. A chair, hat, and water bottle are recommended.
