HD-54 state Representative Donni Steele says she supports Trump pardoning rioters who tried to overturn free and fair election

LANSING — In case you missed it, MIRS exposed extremist MAGA MIGOP state Representative Donni Steele for repeatedly supporting Donald Trump’s promise to pardon the January 6th rioters. These convicted criminals broke into the Capitol to try to overturn the results of the free and fair election in 2020 because they didn’t like the results — and she has no problem with that. 

The MAGA MIGOP has allowed this kind of shameful extremism to fester in their party as they continue to undermine our constitution and the foundations of our democracy. These extremists have no place in the halls of power. 

Rep. Steele is just another example of MAGA MIGOP members putting an extremist agenda ahead of the well-being of our state and our country. They have no place representing anyone in Michigan, and the voters are going to show them the door this November.

MIRS: Steele Lets Slip That She’d Support Pardoning Jan. 6 Rioters

• Rep. Donni STEELE (R-Lake Orion) was overheard telling someone twice after a campaign event Thursday that she’d support Donald TRUMP, if he were re-elected, pardoning those convicted of crimes from Jan. 6…
  
  
• On Thursday, Steele was with former Gov. Rick SNYDER at a “Bus Tour Pitstop” with around 70 people. After the speaking portion of the event, someone approached Steele to talk about how closely she aligns with Trump, according to a recording obtained by MIRS. 
  
  
• At a certain point, Steele was asked, “You would support him pardoning the January 6th people?” 
  
  
• “Yeah, yeah. That was . . . ,” Steele said, her voice trailing off. “So, you would support him pardoning those people?” she was asked again. “Yes. Yes,” she repeated. 
  
  
• Told about the comments today, Steele’s opponent, Shadia MARTINI, said she was “horrified.” Martini said she comes from Syria, where there is no such thing as a free and fair election at the time she lived there. 
  
  
• Anyone who spoke ill of the country’s ruler “disappeared.” “For a sitting state representative to support those who tried to violently overturn the election of 2020. I don’t know what to say,” Martini said. “She is out of step with the district…”
  
  
• Asked for a response today, Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Tommy KUBITSCHEK said, “This admission from Rep. Steele is a disgrace to our democracy, our country, and the values that Michiganders hold dear. Unfortunately, this has become the norm for this chaotic Michigan Republican Party that has continually put MAGA extremism ahead of real progress in our state.”
