From: Institute Of Contemporary Art MuseumWelcome back to ICA in LA, our monthly newsletter dedicated to art events, experiences, and activities outside ICA LA's walls.
Tomorrow, Saturday, July 1, start your holiday weekend at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures with a screening of Amazing Grace, featuring a breathtaking performance by Aretha Franklin as part of their Summer of Music series. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the producers and other choir members.
With Independence Day around the corner, it’s a good time to contemplate the American dream. Visit the exhibition American Gurl at Hauser & Wirth DTLA curated by Zehra Zehra and Kilo Kish, who consider the American dream through the lens of women artists working in film, video, and performance. The lineup includes works by artists Lorna Simpson, Carrie Mae Weems, and Martine Syms.
On Saturday, July 8, the Getty Research Institute is celebrating Barbara T. Smith’s 92nd birthday! Join the party and view her current exhibition, Barbara T. Smith: The Way to Be. And we are excited to announce that ICA LA will continue the “year of Barbara” this fall with a survey of the artist's work. Spend time with ICA LA’s recently opened summer exhibitions with our virtual tours of the Carmen Argote, Alberta Whittle, and Tr??ng Công Tùng, or watch our recently released video interview with featured artist Alberta Whittle and ICA LA Senior Curator Amanda Sroka as they discuss Whittle’s film, between a whisper and a cry, and dive deeper into the themes of the exhibition, on view at ICA LA through September 10.
Find out about these events and so much more in the listing below. Enjoy and we hope to see you soon!
Have a wonderful holiday weekend, Team ICA LA
