Arts and Entertainment
April 9, 2024
From: Institute Of Contemporary Art MuseumDear ICA LA Community,
April is here, and thanks to the newly extended dates for Scratching at the Moon, we have even more programs to enjoy this spring. Next week, our friends at the Asian American Pacific Islander Arts Network (AAPIAN) are hosting A Potluck of Ideas, creating a space for AAPIAN members and ICA LA visitors to openly discuss topical issues like gentrification, mentorship, community building and visibility. They'll bring the food and drinks, all you need to bring is an open mind (and maybe a friend or two!).
On Wednesday, April 17, ICA LA’s bookshelf resident Ooga Booga is hosting a book talk on Miyoko Ito: Heart of Hearts, dedicated to the abstract painter’s mysterious and underknown practice. The talk will feature the book’s editor Jordan Stein and Pre-Eco Press founder Matt Connors, along with artists Pearl C. Hsuing, Hanna Hur, Rebecca Morris, and Lesley Vance. The book celebrations continue later in the month with a Triple Catalogue Launch Party to celebrate, together with the featured artists, three recent ICA LA publications: Rebecca Morris: 2001–2022; Barbara T. Smith: Proof; and Scratching at the Moon. These catalogues will make a great addition to your art library, so don’t miss this chance to have them signed by the artists!
On Wednesday, April 24, historian Vikram Tamboli hosts a viewing of Cut Line, a new film featured in Scratching at the Moon by Vishal Jugdeo and Miljohn Ruperto and created in collaboration with Tamboli. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the artists. At the end of the month, join us for our regular gatherings of Contemporary Art League (CAL) and Intro to ASL classes.
On behalf of all of us at ICA LA, thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter every week. Your engagement online and in person with our programs means more than you know.
