Trump Chooses Inexperienced Running Mate who Toes the Project 2025 Party Line

On July 15, 2024, on the first day of the Republican National Convention, the Trump Campaign announced that J.D. Vance will join the GOP ticket as their candidate for Vice President. Vance becomes the Republican nominee for Vice President with a historically weak resume but as an unapologetic adherent to the policies that make up the radical Project 2025 policy and social agenda for another Trump term.

“Adding J.D. Vance to the GOP ticket does nothing to make Trump more appealing here in New Mexico and only reinforces how out of touch with our state’s voters the Republican policy agenda is. While the Biden-Harris ticket remains focused on economic opportunity, affordability, and defending our rights, the Trump-Vance ticket has a policy agenda taken right out of the Project 2025 playbook,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Spokesperson Daniel Garcia. “Compared to Vance, Vice President Kamala Harris has decades of leadership experience and a long track record of accomplishments to show for it.”

While the Biden-Harris ticket remains focused on economic opportunity, affordability, and defending our rights, Vance adds his record to the already alarming GOP ticket. Vance:

- Supports a nationwide abortion ban, even in cases of rape, incest, or the life of the mother

- Staunchlyopposes the Affordable Care Act

- Opposes Social Security and Medicare

- Downplayed the violence ofJanuary 6th

Although Vance was a one-time critic of Trump, telling Charlie Rose in 2016, “I’m a Never Trump guy,” his calculations to be a team player for the MAGA establishment have earned him a spot on a presidential ticket. The Democratic Party of New Mexico is confident that New Mexicans will join former Vice President Mike Pence in rejecting another Trump term as President.
